The acting is brilliant and Gerard Butler and Emmie Rossum give award winning performances as the two leads. The sets are lavish and so detailed, they really are mesmerizing. Emmy Rossum as Christine vs Gwyneth Paltrow as Juliet. I noticed a parallel opening with Shakespeare in Love, where the understudy of the show, substituted for the original player, and of course stole the show.

I surely could not do it, so in this case everyone was fantastic in my mind. but for me as a poor patron of the arts, it was fabulous, and being critical of fine points of the performer's seems pointless. I cannot compare it to the original play,because I have not been privileged to see it on stage. Not so sure I like the premise of the movie because it dates back to the 1870's when times were different and men ruled the world, but today it is a masterpiece of the modern theatre, mostly due to the musical artistry of Andrew Lloyd Weber It is superbly done in my mind with strength and integrity, and without question star performances. The music of course is phenomenal, and 'stage' effects blew me away. I had to watch it twice to finally understand what was going on. It is the first time I have seen Phantom of the Opera.
